Your privacy is important to us! The Mad Hatters Bookshop values your privacy and understands the importance of keeping your personal information secure.
Please be assured that we will never sell, rent or provide your private information to an unrelated third party without your express permission.
The only reasons we collect your personal information are to:
- Fulfil orders you have placed on our website
- Provide you with information regarding our products and services – this may be through email, telephone, snail mail or face to face contact (by our management, employees or our officially appointed representatives)
- Allow you loyalty discounts on your products
If you would like to view or alter your personal information (or remove yourself from our contact list), please contact us and we will promptly assist you.
Your credit card details are not stored on our site and are provided directly by you to our secure payment gateway provider or via Paypal.

Event Tickets
For event tickets preorders are available on our event ticket tab approximately 30 days in advance of the event. Event ticket cancellations are required 24 hours before the event in order to receive a full or partial refund.
Shipping Cost - Australia and New Zealand
For orders shipped to Australia or New Zealand, postage is a starting fee of $8.99 with an extra $3 per book. Orders over $150 have free postage.
Items will be shipped within 3 days of receipt for all in stock items. When pre-ordering a book delivery will be within 7 days of the release date where possible. For out of stock new orders most deliveries will be within 2 weeks, however there may be exceptions, depending on supplier location & availability and any freight disruptions.

For orders shipped outside Australia or New Zealand, postage is a starting fee of $9.99 with an extra $5 per book. Orders over $300 have free postage.
Sometimes you may need to return an item to us.
Before returning any items please contact Customer Service to discuss your reason for returning your book.
Below are our policies regarding returns. Please read these before contacting us as they may answer your questions.
The Mad Hatters Bookshop complies with Australian Consumer laws regarding returns and refunds. Please choose carefully as we do not offer refunds for change of mind or if you have selected the wrong product, or for reasons beyond our control - for more information about any of our publications or resources please contact us on 0431 615 787 before placing your order and we will be happy to assist you.
Credits or exchange on returned goods are only available under these conditions:
- Fault or error with product. You must contact us to advise of an error in your product within 14 days. In-store or online orders can only be exchanged for other products within 30 days of purchase. No refund is given for change of mind. No refund is offered for sale or discounted items marked down due to fault.
- If the goods you received were not what you ordered, or we have made an error in fulfilment, we will supply you with a Reply Paid address so there is no cost to you in return postage.
- If the goods you received were damaged on arrival, we will supply you with a Reply Paid address so there is no cost to you in return postage. In these circumstances, we will replace the damaged item with exactly the same item in non-damaged condition. No refunds or exchanges are possible.
- All items returned must be returned in the condition they were sold in. Any damage caused due to incorrect storage or poor treatment of the item caused by the customer, including inappropriate shipping packaging, will unfortunately result in the rejection of your returns/credit or exchange request.
- Items that were out of stock and have been purchased specifically to fulfil your order are not returnable. Neither are special orders, DVDs or sale items.
- We do not accept returns for change of mind or if you have selected the wrong product.
If an isolated product is incorrectly priced due to human error, it is our right to refuse selling the item at the wrong price in accordance with our store policy - however we do offer customers the opportunity to receive a full refund after purchase in order to correct the mistake and re-sell the product at the correct price. Please contact the staff within 14 days so a refund can be actioned. If multiple identical products are incorrectly priced at the time of purchase, we will honour the lower price according to store policy.
Gift Vouchers
Gift vouchers are available to purchase. There is no fee for purchasing a gift voucher. Vouchers are valid for three years upon purchase & issuing of the voucher. Gift vouchers cannot be used in conjunction with other sales offers, additional discounts, laybys, exchanges, other gift vouchers, and event tickets. Gift vouchers cannot be exchanged for cash. Items purchased using a gift voucher cannot be refunded for a cash amount or for another gift voucher.
At this time, our point-of-sale system does not allow gift vouchers to be applied to customer loyalty accounts and are therefore unable to redeem a gift voucher in conjuction with loyalty points, however our website provider is currently working on creating a system to allow this.

Sales & Promotions
Sales and promotions held either in-store or online will be available for a limited period. Event tickets & gift vouchers are exempt from any sales or promotions.
Special Orders, Laybys & Holds
Special orders are subject to supplier delivery times. Items in stock at time of order may change according to supplier stock levels and we endeavour to keep customers updated as information changes. Special orders will be kept in-store for eight weeks before the item is either placed back on the shelf or returned to supplier. Deposits on non-returnable special orders are non-refundable. Returnable special orders with deposits paid on the item will be added to the customer's store credit account and will be usable for up to a year. If a customer is unable to immediately collect or pay for their special order due to extenuating circumstances or financial hardship, please contact staff and we will consider either extending the special order hold period and/or creating a payment plan.
Item holds will be held for three days before being placed back on the shelf. Some items may not be available to be placed on hold due to customer demand. Please allow a period of up to three hours during opening hours for click-and-collect and order holds – particularly during busy periods. We also recommend calling ahead to confirm item is in stock and available to be collected. If there is an issue with any click-and-collect items or hold items, we endevour to notify customers as soon as possible. Please be sure there is a working contact number or email address attached to your click-and-collect item or hold item.
Laybys require a minimum of 10% deposit at time of layby. Layby will be held in-store for twelve weeks before the item is either placed back on the shelf or returned to supplier. Any deposits paid on the item will be added to the customer's account and will be usable for up to a year. Customer must pay at least monthly payment installments for the item to remain on layby. If a customer is unable to make these payments or needs extra time on their layby due to extenuating circumstances or financial hardship- please contact the staff and we will consider extending the layby period.
Conditions of Entry
Appropriate clothing and footwear must be worn upon entry. No food or beverages are to be consumed in the carpeted story corner of the store. We ask customers to take care when consuming food or beverages while handling products in other areas of the store.
Children under six must be accompanied by an adult at all times within the store. Children under six must be accompanied by an adult to enter the Harry Potter & Games Room.
In the case of accidental breakages, please do not return it to the shelf - notify the staff and we will mark the item as damaged, remove it from sale, or mark it down appropriately. Customers are asked to follow directions on signs and do not remove products from packaging or play excessively with delicate items, including soft toys. Customers must not touch or remove items from the special order and holds shelf.
The QLD check-in app is no longer required for entering the store premises. COVID-19 vaccination status is not required to be checked upon entry to the premises. Face masks are no longer mandatory on-site, though customers are encouraged to wear them if they feel comfortable to do so.
We do not tolerate abusive, aggressive or rude behaviour aimed at staff - this will result in your removal from the premises. If you refuse to leave the premises, the police will be contacted.
