Description

Life does not end when your children leave home and create their own families -- it just enters a new and challenging era. Dipping into her extended case files, parenting expert and grandmother of four, Anne Cawood gives sage advice for grandparents entering or already in this wonderful phase of their lives. Grandparents play a vital role in the lives of the new generation -- both their own children and their grandchildren. In the modern world of technological development, instant communication and fast travel, there is still no replacement for the care, love and support of the extended family in the circle of life where grandparents are the vital link between past and future. This book is for all grandparents or anyone who fulfils this very important role in a childs life. It offers guidance and support to give grandparents insight into the lives of 21st century children, with valuable coping skills and positive strategies to help them enjoy their grandchildren while still living meaningful lives nurturing their own needs and well-earned freedom and independence.

Author description

Registered social worker Anne Cawood works as a school counsellor at Herschel Preparatory School while running a private practice in the afternoons where she sees children, parents and, increasingly, grandparents. Trained to run Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) she has developed and presented workshops on a host of parenting related topics for many years. Anne is a popular speaker at schools, parenting workshops and on radio and TV shows. In her work she places a strong emphasis on problem-solving and life-skills training, and her workshops for children on topics related to self esteem, peer relationships and assertiveness are very popular. Anne is married with four children and four grandchildren and lives in Cape Town. This is her fifth book.
